Sunny Thai Massage & Spa is a small walk-in spa on Seminole Blvd, open every day from 9 AM to 10:30 PM. We offer four core massage styles — Thai, Swedish, deep tissue, and hot oil body massage — at honest pricing posted at the front. This guide is the long-form overview we'd hand to a friend new to massage in the Seminole area, covering everything from styles and pricing to what to expect during your first visit.
The four styles we offer
Most spas in the Seminole area offer some combination of these four core styles. Sunny Thai offers all of them, all at the same price ($50 for 30 minutes, $70 for 60 minutes). Picking the right style for your body's actual need is the single most important decision you make at the front desk.
Traditional Thai massage
Real Thai bodywork — stretching, acupressure, and rhythmic compression along the body's energy lines. You stay fully clothed in loose comfortable wear, lying on a padded mat. No oil. The work is more active than Swedish and produces a different kind of result: looser hips, more flexible hamstrings, less locked shoulders. Best for athletes, runners, weightlifters, anyone with chronic tightness, and people who want the benefits of yoga without doing the work themselves. A 60 minute Thai session is $70.
Swedish massage
The classic relaxation experience. Long flowing strokes with warm oil on bare skin (you stay covered with sheets the entire time). Light to medium pressure designed to calm your nervous system and help you switch off completely. Best for stress relief, anxiety, sleep issues, first-time massage guests, and anyone who finds deep tissue too intense. The most popular first-time choice at our Seminole spa. A 60 minute Swedish session is $70.
Deep tissue massage
Firmer pressure, slower strokes, focused work on chronic muscle tension. Best for desk workers with upper back and neck pain, drivers with lower back tension, athletes needing recovery work, and anyone with specific knots that have been bothering them for weeks. Not the right choice if you mainly want to relax — for that, Swedish is better. A 60 minute deep tissue session is $70. Pressure is fully adjustable throughout.
Hot oil body massage
The most sensory experience on the menu. Warmed aromatic oil applied generously across the entire body, with long gliding strokes. The warmth helps muscles relax faster than dry-hand work. Most popular as a date-night choice or for special occasions like anniversaries and birthdays. A 60 minute hot oil session is $70. The oil leaves skin feeling soft for hours afterward.
Honest pricing, every visit
Pricing at our Seminole spa is simple and never changes between guests or visits. A 30 minute single session is $50. A 60 minute single session is $70. Same price for any of the four core styles — Thai, Swedish, deep tissue, or hot oil. There is no upcharge for deep tissue or focused work, no surge pricing during peak hours, no first-time discount that disappears later, and no membership pressure.
We accept cash and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover). We do not offer package deals or memberships at this time, which keeps pricing transparent and removes the upsell pressure that comes with subscription models.
Walk in this week
Open 9 AM – 10:30 PM, every day.
How walk-in actually works
Sunny Thai is a true walk-in spa. Just stop by any day from 9 AM to 10:30 PM. The front desk says hello, asks if you've been in before, and checks room availability. During quiet windows (weekday afternoons, Sunday evenings, late nights), a private room is usually ready immediately. During peak hours (Friday/Saturday evenings), there might be a 5-15 minute wait. You pick your style and duration, change in privacy, and the session starts.
Three situations where calling 727-289-7609 ahead actually helps. First, peak hours — calling 30 minutes ahead saves a possible wait. Second, if you want a specific therapist you've been to before. Their schedule fills faster than the rooms. Third, special occasions like anniversaries or planned date nights. Outside these three, walk-in is the easier choice. There's no booking fee, no deposit, and no penalty for changing plans. Read more in our walk-in vs appointment guide.
What to expect at your first visit
About a third of our walk-in guests are first-timers. The single most common feedback we hear is "I was way more nervous than I needed to be." Here's what actually happens.
Free parking is right outside our door at 6100 Seminole Blvd. Walk into the small calm lobby. The front desk will check you in, walk you through the simple options, and recommend a style if you're unsure. The therapist takes you to a private room with a closing door, soft warm lighting, and fresh sheets on the table. You undress to your comfort level (most guests keep underwear on) while the therapist waits outside. They knock before re-entering. The session begins.
You stay covered with clean sheets the entire session — only the area being worked on is uncovered briefly, then re-covered before moving to the next area. You don't need to talk. The only thing to speak up for is pressure (too firm? too light? say so). Halfway through, the therapist will gently ask you to turn over. Then it's done. Plan for about 75 minutes total at the spa for a 60 minute session, including check-in and changing. Read the full first-timer breakdown in what to expect at your first massage.
How often should you come?
Depends on the goal. For general stress relief, once or twice a month works well. For chronic back or neck pain, weekly for the first month then every other week then monthly maintenance — this is the rhythm that actually breaks long-held tension. For athletic recovery, every other week minimum during heavy training, weekly during peak cycles. For special occasions, just walk in when the moment calls for it. There's no membership and no commitment, so the rhythm is fully flexible. Read more in how often should you get a massage.
Picking the right style for your body
This is the biggest decision at the front desk. Quick guide:
- Mostly stressed, body is fine: Swedish
- Specific tight spots in upper back or shoulders: Deep tissue
- Tight hips, hamstrings, or athletic recovery: Thai
- Date night or special occasion: Hot oil body
- First time, want gentle: Swedish
- First time, want active: Thai
- Office worker with chronic upper back pain: Deep tissue
- Anxiety or trouble sleeping: Swedish or hot oil
- Runner with chronic tightness: Thai
- Want maximum sensory experience: Hot oil
If you're unsure, just say at the front desk what kind of week you've had and what your body feels like, and we'll recommend the right style. The choice is the same price either way ($50 / $70), so the only thing that matters is fit.
Cleanliness, privacy, and training
Every massage at our Seminole spa happens in a separate room with a closing door. No curtains separating beds, no shared spaces, no other guests in earshot. Sheets and towels are replaced between every guest, every single time. Massage tables are wiped down with hospital-grade cleaner between sessions. All of our therapists hold valid Florida massage therapist licenses with years of hands-on experience. Read the full breakdown in private room massage explained.
The local angle
Our regulars at Sunny Thai come from across Pinellas County every week. The drive is short from most of the area: Largo (12 min, 6 mi), Pinellas Park (16 min, 6 mi), St. Petersburg (22 min, 11 mi), Clearwater (18 min, 9 mi), Madeira Beach (9 min, 3 mi), Indian Rocks Beach (12 min, 5 mi), Treasure Island (13 min, 5 mi), Redington Beach (8 min, 3 mi), and Belleair (16 min, 7 mi).
Free parking right at our door makes the visit stress-free no matter which city you're coming from. We're open seven days a week from 9 AM to 10:30 PM, so timing rarely conflicts with work or family schedules. Most regulars say the consistency of the experience — same friendly therapists, same honest pricing, same calm rooms — is what keeps them coming back week after week.
Specific conditions we help with
The most common reasons people walk into our Seminole spa: chronic upper back and neck pain from desk work, lower back tension from driving, tight shoulders from screen time, athletic recovery between training sessions, generalized stress and anxiety, sleep difficulties, and pre/post-vacation reset. Read the focused breakdown in massage for back and neck pain.
What we don't do: pregnancy massage (we recommend looking for a spa that specializes in pregnancy-safe bodywork — ask your OB), hot stone, lymphatic drainage, or specialized injury rehabilitation. For these, larger destination spas in St. Pete or Clearwater offer specialized services. We focus on doing four core styles really well rather than offering everything.
What makes a great visit
Three things separate a great massage from a mediocre one. First, the right style for your body's actual need that day — talk to the front desk if unsure. Second, honest communication about pressure during the session — speak up if anything feels too firm or too light. Third, the right rhythm of return visits — single sessions feel great, but cumulative regular sessions produce real lasting changes. Most regulars find their sweet spot within 2-3 visits.
The best spa is the one you actually keep going to. Honest pricing, friendly therapists, and a calm room beat fancy amenities every time.

Tips for getting more from each visit
A few things that consistently help guests get more out of their session at our Seminole spa. First, communicate clearly at check-in — tell the front desk what kind of week you've had, where the tightness is, and whether you want firm or gentle pressure. The front desk uses this to match you to the right therapist and style. Vague check-ins lead to vague sessions. Second, speak up about pressure during the session — your therapist literally cannot read your mind. If anything feels too firm or too light, just say so and they will adjust on the spot.
Third, drink water before and after. Hydrated muscles release tension faster and recover better. Most guests feel mildly lightheaded right after a session because the nervous system has shifted into deep rest mode — water helps you transition back. Fourth, give your body time to integrate the work afterward. Skip intense exercise for the rest of the day, eat lighter meals, and protect your sleep that night. The benefit compounds when you protect the calm.
Fifth, find a rhythm and stick with it for at least four to six weeks before judging the results. One session feels great. Real lasting changes show up after consistent visits over a month or two. Whether you pick weekly, every other week, or monthly depends on your goal — but consistency matters more than frequency. Many of our regulars say the third or fourth session is when they really notice the cumulative benefit.
Common misconceptions
A few things people get wrong about massage that we'd like to clear up. Misconception one: massage is a luxury for special occasions. Reality — for most adults with desk jobs, monthly massage is closer to basic body maintenance than indulgence, similar to dental cleanings or oil changes. The body needs regular care to function well over time. Misconception two: deep tissue is always better than Swedish. Reality — they address different needs. Pure deep tissue without Swedish elements can be unnecessarily intense for stress relief. The right style depends on what your body needs that week.
Misconception three: pain is necessary for the massage to work. Reality — therapeutic pressure should feel intense in tight spots but never crosses into sharp pain. If you find yourself gritting your teeth, the pressure is too much. Real release happens in the muscle when the right amount of pressure is applied for long enough, not when force is maxed out. We want you back regardless.
Misconception five: only women get massage. Reality — about 40% of our walk-in guests are men, and many local male regulars from Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater come in weekly for back and neck tension relief. The walk-in model works particularly well for guys who want a quick reset without booking pressure. Massage is body maintenance for any guest who has a body — gender has nothing to do with it.
Choosing the right therapist for you
At our Seminole spa, all therapists are professional Florida professionals with years of experience. Most guests have a great session with whichever therapist is next available. But some regulars develop a preference for a specific therapist over time — different hands, different styles, different approaches to the same body. If you find a therapist whose work you love, ask their name at the end of the session and request them on future visits by calling 727-289-7609 to book ahead.
What to consider when picking: pressure preference (some therapists naturally work firmer, others lighter), style strengths (some excel at Thai, others at deep tissue, others at Swedish), and personality fit (some are quietly focused, others are warmer and more conversational). The front desk can help match you to the right person if you describe what you want. There is no "best" therapist — just the right match for your specific preferences.
An honest hour, an honest price, the same friendly therapists every visit. That's the whole model.
